~ Christenings and Baptisms ~

Leslie would be thrilled to preside for your ‘baby dedication’ (christenings) or teen/adult baptism! As you consider this symbolic Christian event for your child, Leslie hopes you will take the time to read the following explanation of these two different yet very important events, along with their biblical reference…

A ‘baby dedication’ (or christening) is for newborns and young toddlers.
Parents who profess belief in God should follow the example given by Jesus’ earthly parents…

Luke 2: 21-23… On the eighth day when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus—the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived. When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord…

Jesus was not ‘baptized’ when he was a baby…he was ‘presented’ or ‘dedicated’ to God. The temple priest performed a circumcision (not a doctor!) and the baby was likely anointed with oil—not water.
Thus, ‘baptism’ is not the correct terminology nor event for a baby, nor is the use of water!

Thus, a ‘dedication’ or ‘christening’ is the correct terminology and event, for a baby. While it continues to be an endearing childhood event, it really is more about the parents—their public declaration of their own faith in God, and their belief in the importance of raising their child up in the Christian faith.

A ‘baptism’ is actually for a consenting older child, teen or adult…

Matthew 3: 13-17… Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

This scripture teaches that Jesus was baptized as an adult—and, He was approximately 30 years old. Baptism is one’s own public declaration that they have decided to become a follower of Christ—a Christian!

If you have any further questions about christenings or baptisms, don’t hesitate to contact Leslie. And, she also gladly offers her music services to accompany this event, if you desire!

~ Memorials ~

For the true believer in Christ, death is a joyful ‘home-going’ (1 Thes 4: 13-18)
to begin an eternal life with the Lord where every tear is wiped away!

Leslie presides for Christian memorials with an attitude of reverence, hope and encouragement. She will work in conjunction with you and/or your funeral director to help ease this difficult time of transition, and ensure the memorial for your loved one transpires as closely as possible to how it was envisioned.

And, as David played for King Saul (1 Sam 16: 23), Leslie offers her music services for memorials. Her contemporary and beautiful renditions of beloved hymns and worship melodies will soothe and comfort.

Don’t hesitate to contact Leslie if she can be of assistance to you and your family!
